Samsung Hike lets you capture 3D video via hand gestures alone

Asmita Prasad:

In the modern world, cellphones have become an integral part of our personalities and whether a person is a complete couch potato or avid camper/rock climber/backpacker, having a cellphone close at hand is a basic need. However, if you fall in a weighty segment of the population, chances are that you constantly find yourself in situations where you cannot just reach into your pocket and answer a call or click a photograph and end up missing opportunities to capture great pictures or videos. For people who need to experience the full range of their smartphone’s features without giving up the use of both the hands, designer Steven Corraliza has created the Samsung Hike.

The phone uses the visual design language and basic features of a Samsung smartphone and creates a concept that will be able to offer users unprecedented functionality like gestural control and handsfree usability. The phone’s design allows it be easily clipped to the straps of a backpack at the front of the user’s shoulder. While securely attached to the user’s backpack strap, innovative features like gesture control would still enable users to capture 3D video or images by simply moving their hands in a certain way. The phone would basically use the same kind of gesture recognition technology as the kind featured in the Sci-Fi flock “Minority Report.”

The phone would also feature what the designer called a Sixth Sense Technology, which would basically allow users to intuitively connect to the Cloud and share the pictures and videos they clock with friends on social networking sites. Visually, the Samsung Hike draws its features from the Tron movies that would help the concept make a style statement as well.
